Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has expressed admiration for Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara, as he was chosen by teammate Gabriel Jesus for his five-a-side team.

Thiago, who made his first appearance of the season against Arsenal on Sunday, unfortunately couldn’t turn the tide in that particular game. Nevertheless, his return is being seen as a significant boost for Liverpool.

Thiago Alcantara arrived at Anfield amid high expectations in 2020, having previously showcased his superstar status at Bayern Munich. Anticipations were high for him to replicate or even surpass his previous performances. However, his time at Liverpool has been marred by injuries, with the midfielder missing over 100 games for both club and country in the last three-and-a-half years.

Now back in action, Thiago’s abilities haven’t gone unnoticed, with Arsenal stars Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard acknowledging his skill. The duo selected their most skillful five-a-side teams on Prime Video Sport’s TikTok handle, and when Jesus picked Thiago for his midfield, Odegaard promptly exclaimed, “What a player!”

Odegaard played a crucial role in Arsenal’s recent victory over Liverpool at the Emirates, securing a 3-1 win and narrowing the gap at the top of the Premier League table to just two points.

The Gunners took the lead early in the game through a 14th-minute strike by Bukayo Saka. Although Liverpool found an equaliser through Gabriel Magalhaes’ own goal just before halftime, Gabriel Martinelli restored the lead for Arsenal after a defensive mix-up between Alisson Becker and Virgil Van Dijk.

Despite Liverpool’s efforts, substitute Leandro Trossard sealed the victory for Arsenal in stoppage time, taking advantage of the man advantage following Ibrahima Konate’s red card.

With key players like Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus and the expected return of Jurrien Timber soon to join the team, Mikel Arteta’s team are back in contention for the title and appear poised for a strong campaign.
