Manchester United defensive woes have deepened as they prepare to face Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend. The Gunners are scheduled to visit Old Trafford on Sunday, marking one of the final two fixtures for the north London club. However, ahead of the crucial match, the Red Devils have revealed a significant blow to their backline.

Former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire will be sidelined for approximately three weeks due to a muscle injury sustained during training. This setback has ruled him out of Monday’s fixture against Crystal Palace and potentially the remaining three Premier League matches against Arsenal, Newcastle, and Brighton.

For United manager Erik ten Hag, this injury presents yet another selection headache. Already struggling with defensive absences, he had to deploy midfielder Casemiro in central defence during the recent 1-1 draw against Burnley. Maguire’s absence disrupts the expected defensive lineup, where he was expected to partner with the returning Jonny Evans at Selhurst Park.

Evans, who recently recovered from his own muscle injury, is now expected to feature alongside Casemiro in central defence against Crystal Palace. However, the injury crisis persists for ten Hag, with Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Willy Kambwala, and Tyrell Malacia all unavailable due to various injury concerns.

Maguire’s absence is particularly felt given his consistent performances this season, earning him praise as a key figure in United’s defence. His latest injury setback compounds the challenges for ten Hag as he navigates through the final fixtures of the campaign, with crucial matches on the horizon.

Despite concerns over his availability, there is optimism regarding Maguire’s participation in England’s squad for next month’s European Championship. Moreover, he could be in contention for the FA Cup final clash against Manchester City on May 25.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have a clean bill of health with every first team player fit and available for Mikel Arteta as they keep pushing for the Premier League title this season.

Tough times at Old Trafford. 😔 It’s hard seeing United struggle like this. Really hope Ten Hag can turn it around with the backing he deserves. Let’s not give up yet! 💪 #MUFC #KeepTheFaith
