Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has commended Arsenal for their resilience after a hard-fought goalless draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s side failed to breach Arsenal’s defense, marking the first time in 57 games that City failed to score at home.

Despite the lack of goals, Silva acknowledged the challenge posed by Mikel Arteta’s side, describing them as a tough opponent to play against. He highlighted Arsenal’s organised defensive setup, noting their effectiveness in pressing high and maintaining a compact shape when defending deep.

“[It’s] tough to play against them because man-to-man when they were pressing high,” Silva explained to Sky Sports. “When they were defending low, their wingers were playing as full-backs in almost a line of six.

“So, it’s never easy to play against teams that defend this well when they are high pressing and when they come deep, they defend deep and so connected. Tough game.

“They were very well-organised. It wasn’t easy to create chances and to give our strikers opportunities to score goals.”

Silva also noted the difference in Arsenal’s approach compared to their previous encounter at the Etihad Stadium last April, where City secured a 4-1 victory. He observed a more experienced and organised Arsenal side, attributing their improvement to the development of young players within the squad.

“Last April, I felt like they were doing man-to-man all over the pitch the whole game,” Silva recalled, “Today, it wasn’t the same. But yeah, a different team because they are more experienced.”

A standout performer for Arsenal in the match was William Saliba, who received the Man of the Match award. Saliba’s presence in defence proved crucial for Arsenal, contrasting with their previous encounter where Rob Holding struggled in his absence.
