Former Liverpool and Scotland player Kenny Dalglish gave his advice to his fellow countryman Keiran Tierney over his lack of game time this season and a potential move away from Arsenal come the summer.

Scottish left-back Kieran Tierney has admitted that he is hurt about his lack of game time this season, and it’s expected the former Celtic man will be looking for a move away from Arsenal come the summer transfer window.

The 26-year old has played 19 games this season in the Premier League, however most of them have been late substitute appearances, with Tierney coming on for Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Although he isn’t a starter for Arsenal, for his country Scotland he is one of the most important players, having completed 90 minutes in their Euro qualifier against Cyprus most recently. His performance was very good and he got a lot of praise from the Scottish media.

Legend Scottish striker Sir Kenny Dalglish gave his advice and verdict about Tierney’s future in a recent interview with The Sunday Post.

When asked about Kieran Tierney, Dalglish said:

“Kieran was left out initially because he was injured, and the player who came in for him has done well. Arteta decided to sign Zinchenko because he wants Arsenal to play the same way as Manchester City. Zinchenko was taught that way at City, so he is used to it. Kieran is not. That does not mean to say Kieran has gone backwards as a player. It is just someone else has been a wee bit better.”

He also stated that Tierney is a fantastic player and he has to do everything to challenge the Ukrainian for a starting spot, or to make his case in another position on the pitch.

Zinchenko joined Arsenal from Manchester City in the summer and has been one of Arsenal’s most important players this season & is a big reason why the Gunners currently find themselves in an unexpected title race with ten games to go.

It’s not just the Ukrainian’s outstanding technical ability and passing range that gets him in the team ahead of Kieran Tierney, it’s also the mentality & leadership Zinchenko brings which is crucial to this young Arsenal side.

Kieran Tierney has been linked with a move away from North London over the last few months, with Newcastle United leading he race to sign the Scottish international. However Dalglish thinks Tierney needs to fight his spot & be an option when called upon with the biggest games of Arsenal’s season still to come.
