Scottish left-back Kieran Tierney has unequivocally declared that he will not be making a return to Arsenal during the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old, currently on loan with Real Sociedad, emphasised his commitment to finishing the season with the Spanish club.

With Oleksandr Zinchenko out with a calf injury that ruled him out of Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at Fulham, there were speculations that Tierney could be recalled to fill the void left behind by injured players.

Since joining Real Sociedad on loan last summer, Tierney has been a key player, making 12 appearances, including nine starts in LaLiga and two in the Champions League.

Despite Arsenal facing defensive challenges with long-term injury absentee Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu absence due to the Asian Cup, Tierney has put an end to speculations regarding his early return to bolster the Gunners’ defensive lineup.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper Noticias de Gipuzkoa, Tierney stated, “Several people have asked me about this, but the answer is no. I am definitely staying here (in January).”

He expressed gratitude to Arsenal fans for their unwavering support during his four-year stint with the English club.

Tierney, appreciating the football atmosphere in Spain, contrasted it with the Premier League, saying, “Arsenal fans are great, they always gave me a lot of support. During the four years I was there, I will always be grateful to the fans.

“I don’t want to speak badly about the Premier League because there are some great atmospheres, but in Spain it really is amazing. If you hear fans from Osasuna and Cadiz, they don’t stop singing. It is great here.”

The 26-year-old acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his future at Arsenal, where he has two years left on his contract. While he cannot predict whether he will stay in Spain beyond this season, Tierney conveyed his joy and satisfaction with the current arrangement. “I signed to be here for one year, I am happy,” he said. “I cannot say what will happen next, but I am enjoying every day.”

Kieran Tierney, who expressed his love for Real Sociedad, admitted that the decision to join the club permanently is not entirely in his hands. Despite the challenges of being away from family and friends, he emphasised, The decision (to join Real Sociedad permanently) is not mine to take. But it is true that I love it here, and I’m enjoying it very much.

“As soon as the opportunity to come emerged, I was totally convinced about it. 100 per cent. I knew that it would be tough without my family and I cannot be with my friends, but I can assure you I am really enjoying everything. I am happy. I do not miss my home.”
