German forward Kai Havertz has revealed how Martin Odegaard helped him settle at Arsenal following his big move from Chelsea in the summer.

Havertz joined Arsenal for a reported transfer fee of £65 million, a deal that was heavily criticised due to the underwhelming three years he had in West London. The hefty price tag came with lots of pressure and captain Odegaard was there to make sure he felt welcome on and off the pitch.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Havertz revealed that Odegaard extended a warm hand of friendship immediately after Havertz’s signing was announced. Recalling the gesture, Havertz stated, “The skipper, Martin (Odegaard), reached out to me just ten minutes after the news broke. He simply said, ‘whatever you need, just give me a shout.’ He’s a top guy and a very good friend.”

Moreover, Odegaard’s support extended beyond mere words. The Norwegian midfielder played a pivotal role in assisting Havertz’s integration onto the pitch. During a match against Bournemouth in September, Odegaard generously handed over a penalty opportunity to Havertz, allowing him to register his first goal contribution for Arsenal. This act of camaraderie not only showcased Odegaard’s leadership but also exemplified the supportive team culture at Arsenal.

Since then, Havertz has flourished in the Arsenal jersey, tallying an impressive 19 goal contributions, including eight goals and six assists in the last 13 league games. His recent performances have been instrumental in Arsenal’s push for success in the Premier League, with crucial goals and assists in important matches against Brentford, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United.

Havertz’s journey at Arsenal has undoubtedly been shaped by Odegaard’s encouragement and guidance, exemplifying the importance of strong leadership within the squad. Mikel Arteta has built a young squad who are hungry for success and will keep growing to repay the manager with the faith he has placed in them.
