Arsenal have received a boost with the return of Jurrien Timber to first-team training, marking a significant step in his rehabilitation from a debilitating ACL injury. The Dutch defender, who arrived at the Emirates Stadium in a £38million summer transfer from Ajax, suffered the setback during his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest in August.

While Arsenal have maintained an impressive season, Timber’s absence has been notable, leading the team to deploy Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior in the left-back position. Timber, known for his versatility, is also adept at playing on the right side of the defence.

Jurrien Timber rejoined his teammates on the training ground at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, returning to the site where he sustained the injury six months ago. Although he is not yet participating in full training sessions, his presence with the first-team group was warmly received by teammates.

The defender is expected to rejoin full first-team training within the next two weeks. Jurrien Timber is expected to feature for Arsenal again by mid/late March.

The Champions League return leg against FC Porto on the 12th March is expected to just come a little too early for the 22-year-old. However he could make the squad for the huge title clash against Manchester City on the 31st March.

Mikel Arteta expressed optimism about Timber’s potential return before the season’s end. Speaking ahead of last weekend’s 4-1 Premier League victory over Newcastle United, Arteta said, “I really hope so (he’ll play again this season), he’s doing really well.” He added that Timber would gradually integrate into training, and the team would assess his confidence and fitness levels.

Arsenal, currently enjoying a break after being eliminated from the FA Cup by Liverpool, conducted Wednesday’s training session at the Emirates in preparation for Monday night’s clash with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Arteta is on the verge of welcoming back several players, with Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Thomas Partey nearing a return to first-team training. Additionally, Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira trained with the group on Wednesday after absences due to injury.

Jesus, sidelined since late January, and Vieira, absent since mid-November, could soon bolster Arteta’s squad as Arsenal aims to maintain the strong form in the latter part of the season.
