Injuries have plagued Arsenal throughout this season, with key players like Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus spending considerable time on the sidelines. However, a recent revelation sheds light on another player’s silent battle with injury within the squad.

According to insights shared by James McNicholas on The Athletic Football Podcast, Arsenal defender Ben White has been quietly coping with a knee injury for the majority of the campaign. Despite the discomfort, White has continued to take to the field, demonstrating his resilience and dedication to the team.

McNicholas noted White’s reluctance to communicate his injury status to the coaching staff, indicating his determination to contribute regardless of physical setbacks.

During an episode of the Handbrake Off Podcast, journalist James McNicholas shared that within the Arsenal team, there is a widespread belief that White is among the most resilient players in the dressing room.

“He has been incredibly durable. The truth is, he’s been injured for much of this season, he’s been carrying a knee problem and he’s been playing anyway,” he stated.

“He is known within the dressing room to be one of the toughest guys out there. I think there was an away game at Newcastle in the run-in a couple of seasons ago, during his first season at the club, where he played with a pretty significant hamstring tear.

“His teammates marvelled at it. He was basically on one leg, but Arsenal were short of defenders, and he was prepared to go out there and play.”

White has faced criticism in recent weeks following his decision to reject an invitation to the England national team. According to Southgate, the defender communicated his decision through Arsenal sporting director, Edu, that he should not be considered for the Three Lions at this time.

“Look, it’s absolutely the question you should ask,” Southgate said. “Clearly, on form, I can’t sit here and say he doesn’t deserve to be in. John McDermott had a call from Edu last week to say Ben didn’t want to be considered for England squads at this time.

“That’s a great shame. He’s a player I really like, a player we took to the Euros when he was at Brighton (in 2021), a player we took to the World Cup (2022). I spoke to him, post-Qatar, because I was keen to pick him but there was clearly reticence on his side.

“I don’t know fully why that is, but I have to respect that. The door is open for him because he’s a good player who can make a difference for England, but he’s not available to us.”
