In the January transfer window, Arsenal failed to capture their primary target for the midfield role in Moises Caicedo. They submitted multiple bids, increasing the offer each time but Brighton stood firm on their decision to keep the player which meant Arsenal missed our on their number one target.

Following these events the club reacted well & Arsenal went on to make a move for Italian and Chelsea midfielder Jorginho. While many Arsenal fans were not entirely happy with the move, there were some who were. However collectively everyone saw Jorginho as a secondary target, a player we moved to because we could not sign Caicedo.

Journalist Paul Brown believes that Jorginho will bring more specific qualities to the squad that Arsenal are lacking right now which will be more beneficial than the ones of Moises Caicedo.

Paul Brown on Arsenal signing Jorginho via Give Me Sport:

“I know that Arsenal fans are annoyed that they didn’t manage to get Caicedo and Jorginho feels like a sort of second-rate bargain buy in comparison to him, but it’s just not the case at all. I genuinely think there would have been a place for both of them at Arsenal.

Caicedo’s a very different kind of player, he looks like a sexier name because there was more money involved, but that’s because of his age because you pay for potential and he’s on a longer contract. If you’re assigning one of those players to make a difference to Arsenal this season to get them over the line and win a title, it’s Jorginho, not Caicedo.

Jorginho did not have the most fruitful debut for Arsenal as they faced Everton at Goodison Park and lost 1-0 but I reckon there are positive results ahead for Jorginho once he has properly settled into the squad. Mikel Arteta has made moves for players such as Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale and he was also questioned for the signings however, they turned out to be great for the squad so it is fair to say that we can have faith in Arteta here too!”
