Following Arsenal commanding 3-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth, former Chelsea star Joe Cole has hailed the unexpected impact of Leandro Trossard on Mikel Arteta’s squad. Trossard’s impressive performance, which included a crucial goal, has left everyone very impressed.

Trossard’s contribution to Arsenal’s victory at the Emirates Stadium has underlined his importance to the team’s success, making their one point lead over second-placed Manchester City, who put five past Wolves. With 11 goals in 32 Premier League appearances this season, the 29-year-old Belgium international has emerged as a key figure for Arsenal.

During his analysis of the match for TNT Sports alongside former Arsenal star Martin Keown, Cole expressed admiration for Trossard’s impact. Reflecting on Arsenal’s transfer strategy, Keown highlighted Trossard’s value compared to potential alternative signings, emphasising the astuteness of the club’s recruitment team led by Edu.

“We nearly bought [Mykhailo] Mudryk from Chelsea, and we’re still not sure about him,’ Keown said. “But we’re certainly sure about Trossard. A lot cheaper, £20 million. I mean, it’s incredible. Great bit of business and you have to credit Edu and his team for honing in on that target.”

Cole echoed Keown’s sentiments, acknowledging Trossard’s unexpected excellence and praising Arsenal’s decision to acquire him. Contrary to initial expectations, Trossard has seamlessly integrated into the squad and exceeded performance predictions, earning accolades for his stellar displays.

“I think with the Mudryk situation, he’s a project. There’s a player in Mudryk and he’s improving and he’s getting better and Chelsea will, hopefully, touch wood, get the best of him.

“I think they’ve pivoted and thought, “Right, we haven’t got the player we wanted, that we could ease into the squad, but we’ll go for Trossard who can come in and do a job off the bench”.

“And I don’t think even the people here [thought he’d do this well]. I think they’re surprised by how well he’s done.

“I watched him play plenty of times, I think he’s a top player, but I didn’t see him having the effect he’s had. So fair play to him, he’s been brilliant.”

Arsenal’s resurgence under Arteta has been notable, with the team matching their Premier League win tally from the previous season with two games to spare. The club’s success this season marks a significant improvement from the past, positioning them favourably in the title race and drawing comparisons to historical seasons of excellence.
