Jamie Carragher has admitted he was wrong about Aaron Ramsdale after criticising Arsenal’s decision to sign him back in 2o21.

The 24-year-old joined the Gunners at the beginning of last season after being relegated with Sheffield United. After two failed bids, Arsenal were eventually successful and signed Aaron Ramsdale for a fee in the region of £30million.

The deal came under a lot of scrutiny at the time, including from Arsenal fans, however Mikel Arteta was sure Aaron Ramsdale was the right man to be in between the sticks for Arsenal for years to come.

Several pundits also questioned the decision, but the more games Ramsdale plays for Arsenal, the more impressive his performances are becoming and he has now emerged as one of the finest players in his position in the Premier League.

Aaron Ramsdale’s performance at Anfield portrayed everything Arsenal’s number one is all about. He makes world class saves week in, week out to keep the Gunners in games and continues to show why Mikel Arteta was so desperate to sign him, when everyone else was questioning the move.

He could even end the season with the most clean sheets by all the goalies in England and Carragher has now made a U-turn on his assessment of the goalie.

Jamie Carragher said via The Daily Mail:

“I don’t think I’ve ever been more wrong, or certainly this season proven wrong, than by Aaron Ramsdale.

I watched him at times obviously with different teams where he goes down, you see lots of goals go in, you think, ‘Can the keeper do better there?’

And then when Arsenal bought him I was scratching my head. I’ll be honest, I could not believe it when they bought him. But how he’s overtaken Bernd Leno – he’s had to move on – and his position in the England squad now as well.”
