Thomas Partey missed Ghana’s last game during the international break due to a thigh problem. Here’s an update on his fitness ahead of Arsenal’s game against Leeds United this weekend…

As April approaches and ten Premier League games remain for Arsenal, every fixture comes with that little bit more of added pressure with the Premier League trophy in sight & Mikel Arteta will be hoping for a full squad available until the end of the season…

The first of the ten games remaining begin this weekend as Arsenal host Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium, with a few players in the Gunners side facing late fitness tests to be available for the fixture.

News emerged earlier this week that Ghana coach, Chris Hughton had left Thomas Partey out of the squad which faced Angola on Monday.

After the match, the international manager explained:

“Thomas has some small issues, a small injury issue and we felt it was too big of a risk to start him.”

Arsenal sent lead performance physio Simon Murphy to join Partey with the Ghana squad in a bid to keep the midfielder fit.

Goal correspondent, Charles Watts explained on his YouTube channel that the signs are positive regarding Thomas Partey’s fitness and he is expected to be available for the Leeds game on the weekend.

Charles Watts explained:

“My understanding of the situation is that Thomas Partey was training on Sunday ahead of that game against Angola and he felt something in his right leg.

Now, there are pictures from that training session where you see the physio sort of working on Thomas’ leg; he’s got some sort of strapping on his thigh around the back of his leg. And my understanding is it is not a hamstring issue.

That’s what I’ve been told by people close to Thomas Partey. And they believe he will be fine for the weekend. Obviously, that’s a very early assessment.”

Thomas Partey was due back at London Colney on Wednesday where he will be assessed by the Arsenal medical team, ahead of the game on Saturday.

Arsenal have only lost one game in the Premier League when Thomas Partey has started this season – winning all but three of the 23 matches he’s featured in – that’s how crucial he is to the way Mikel Arteta wants to play and the Arsenal boss will be hopeful the Ghanian is available come the weekend.
