Arsenal are making moves on and off the pitch ahead of the January transfer window. Mikel Arteta’s side currently sit top of the Premier League table heading into Christmas and they aim to give themselves the best chance of staying there come May, by strengthening in depth next month.
Edu is busy making improvements to the squad but that hasn’t stopped him bettering his staff off the pitch this month.
Real Madrid’s Latin America scout, Paulo Xavier is set to join Arsenal in the coming days, as per The Athletic. Xavier has worked with the Spanish giants since September 2017, after moving to Madrid from Manchester United six years ago.
Paulo Xavier will work in South America along with two others scouts in his new role with the Gunners. Xavier was a highly regarded member of chief scout Juni Calafat’s scouting team at Madrid and there’s no doubt he’ll now be a valuable asset to Arsenal.
The Gunners already know the South America market extremely well, since the appointment of former-player Edu as sporting director in 2019. Edu previously worked at the Brazilian Football Conferation between 2016 and 2019 where he worked alongside the club’s new scout, so himself and Xavier know each other well.
Arsenal have utilised the South American market well in recent seasons to sign Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano in 2019 and Marquinhos from Sao Paulo in 2022. It appears the club want to do more business in that part of the world over the next few years.
Xavier played a big part in Real Madrid signing the likes of Endrick, Vinícius, Rodrygo and Eduardo Camavinga. Arsenal will be hoping he can find similar talents to bring to North London.
Xavier is expected to announce his new role in the coming days.
