Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has confirmed that there are no ongoing talks to extend his contract with the club beyond this summer.

The 32-year-old’s current deal at the Emirates Stadium is set to expire in the next five months, though Arsenal retains the option to prolong it by an additional year.

Since his transfer from Chelsea last January for a reported £12 million, Jorginho has experienced a somewhat variable role under Mikel Arteta. Despite periodic shifts in playing time, the Italian international showcased how important he is to the team in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Jorginho was outstanding in midfield for Arsenal alongside Declan Rice and was rightly awarded the Man of the Match after helping the team to dominate the game.

Having enjoyed success with Chelsea, including a UEFA Champions League triumph and contributing to Italy’s victory in Euro 2020, Jorginho remains eager to secure a Premier League title to complete his trophy collection. He expressed confidence in Arsenal’s maturity to challenge for the title this season, particularly after the team narrowly missed out to Manchester City last season.

Reflecting on the importance of winning the Premier League, Jorginho stated, “It would mean a lot. That one is missing to tick [off]. We need to enjoy the moment and push really hard every single game. At the end, we will see. We have to do a lot, and we have to push a lot. We are on the right path.”

Highlighting the team’s belief in their capabilities, Jorginho acknowledged the need for maturity in handling matches against other top contenders. He stressed the importance of maintaining focus and not dropping points against other competitive teams, recognising the evolving maturity within the squad.

“It (the team’s psychology) is getting more mature. We went to the changing room, and we spoke, we said what we need to say, and we didn’t drop the energy of the team.”

He also highlighted the collective determination within the Arsenal camp as they strive for Premier League glory.
