Arsenal Legend, Ian Wright believes Kai Havertz will make a huge difference within the Gunners squad for this upcoming season.
Arsenal have been very active in the transfer window so far this summer. They have secured the signings of Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice with a couple more set to be completed before the end of August. However, Ian Wright has singled out Kai Havertz from the bunch as his favourite signing.
Ian Wright on Arsenal next season: “I feel very, very confident about that midfield and what that midfield can produce, especially with Kai Havertz. Havertz in that role, I think we are going to be very surprised in his quality as well.”
Before a move to Chelsea, the 24-year-old made moves at Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. He played some of his best football at the German side and caught the eye of many big clubs including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. The German international scored a total of 46 goals and bagged 31 assists during his time at Leverkusen.

Havertz was seen as a player with huge potential before his move to West London. After his move to Chelsea, he has not been able to live up to those expectations. However he did show glimpses of quality, most impressively in the Champions League final against Manchester City which is definitely one of the best moments of his career to date. Mikel Arteta believes he is the man to unlock Kai Havertz into the best possible version which we are yet to see.
Ian Wright on Kai Havertz: “Arsenal fans are going to love him, we haven’t seen nothing from him at Chelsea. Yes, he’s scored the winning goal in a Champions League and stuff like that.”
“But, he’s not a nine, he’s not a false nine. He’s either a ten, drifting in like he did for Leverkusen scored lots of goals in his first couple of seasons. But I can see him as an eight, arriving with [Gabriel] Jesus coming out, leaving those spaces. I cannot help but get excited.”
These words echo with Mikel Arteta’s belief that Havertz will be “a top, top player” for Arsenal. Arteta is known for his ability to be able to bring out the best in a player who is currently struggling, with Granit Xhaka being the best example of that.
Under Arteta’s guidance, Havertz might just awaken the sleeping beast within. Kai Havertz is currently with the Arsenal squad for their pre-season tour around the United States. The German scored against the MLS All-Starts on Thursday morning which will hopefully be the first goal of many for the Gunners.
