Arsenal have emerged as a surprise title contenders this season which no one predicted at the beginning of the campaign. There was a strong belief that they did make the necessary steps to secure a top four spot, however their investment decisions have proved to exceed expectations.
Arsenal signed the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City before the start of the 22/23 season. Arsenal also signed Fabio Vieira and then in the summer transfer window added Jorginho, Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior.
All of these players have helped Arsenal stay in an unexpected title race until the end along with Manchester City which in itself is an accomplishment, compared to where the Gunners were last season.
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright believes that more marquee additions will be made to Arteta’s Arsenal side in the summer. While speaking to the Athletic, Ian Wright said:
“I went to the training ground the other day and I was with Edu and Mikel, and what’s happening now at the club is we’re not having to go out and cajole other people to come and join Arsenal. They can see what we’re doing.”
“Edu is saying his phone is ringing off the hook and they’re very confident about the calibre of player they’re going to sign. If you’re going to challenge this City team, you’re going to have to come correct.”

The likes of Jesus and Zinchenko came from a title winning team and have the mentality of champions which saw them help transform the mentality in the Arsenal locker room. However, recently Arsenal slipped up on multiple occasions and dropped points as they drew 3 games in a row and lost their game against Manchester City. This saw City gain the advantage in the Premier League title race.
Ian Wright went on to say…
“Ideally, we want to finish as high as we can — we want to win it — but I’m excited about the next phase. When you speak to Edu and Mikel, everything is about winning, man.”
“They just want to win. And even with some of those games we drew it’s only because we were trying to win. It’s a new mentality. We’re trying to win games, we’re not trying to sit off and say, ‘Let’s hold onto this’.”
Arsenal have recently bounced back from their run of bad form with impressive victories against Chelsea and Newcastle United. Arsenal captain, Martin Odegaard has been the man leading the charge all season and he’s the one who’s yet to give up with three games remaining.
A prime reason as to why Arsenal slipped up is their quality in depth. With William Saliba out injured, Arsenal saw themselves concede unnecessary goals which led to the draws against Southampton and West Ham. Saliba’s ball playing skills and technical ability is also a huge miss.

However, on the brighter side, Arsenal have mathematically secured champions league football for next season. That is a major attraction point for a lot of players which could see the Gunners make some huge signings ahead of next season.
