The Premier League title race has been the toughest it’s been in recent years, with Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool all competing to lift the trophy in May.

Currently, Liverpool lead the pack on 54 points, whilst Arsenal and Manchester City sit just two points behind on 52, with Pep Guardiola’s side having a game in hand over the two teams in red. Arsenal found themselves top of the table at Christmas, but a poor run of form between then and the winter break saw the side drop crucial points in the fight.

Mikel Arteta’s side will hope to change their fortunes from last season, as the Gunners found themselves losing out to Manchester City by five points, despite leading the Cityzens for 248 days. Although they missed out on the trophy, they performed substantially higher than pundit, Gary Neville, expected them to.

The former Manchester United defender believed the north London outfit missed their best chance to finish in a Champions League spot at the beginning of last season, and predicted them to finish outside of the top four. Arteta’s side proved the Englishman wrong, but Neville was correct on his consistent view that Arsenal couldn’t win the league.

In such a heated race, Neville gave his view on the challengers on his podcast this week.

Neville began, “I had Arsenal as champions at the start of the season, not many did. I still think City at this moment in time look ominous,

“But Arsenal, I want Arsenal to do it – for obvious reasons I don’t want Liverpool to win, as much as it would be a fairytale for Jurgen Klopp and what that would mean for Liverpool and him.

“But I just think in terms of what Arsenal did last season, where they just crumbled at the end, I would like to see them this season.”

With his critical views on the Gunners in recent seasons, it is surprising that Neville would now like the Gunners to lift the trophy, but it does feel like he is picking the best of a hated bunch for him.
