Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has singled out one player for praise after his Man of the Match performance against Manchester United on Sunday. Leandro Trossard scored in the first half and it happened to be the winning goal Arsenal needed to take the title race to the final day of the season.

This victory ensures the Gunners will head into the final game of the season with a chance to contend for the league title alongside Manchester City.

While Trossard rightfully claims credit for the winning goal, it was the defensive pair of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes that once again proved crucial, securing their 18th clean sheet of the season.

Neville, in particular, was effusive in his praise for Saliba’s contribution. “Saliba has been outstanding today. It’s Saliba [Player of the Match]. 11th clean sheet away from home and a really big one,” Neville remarked during his analysis on Sky Sports. “He had to keep concentrating. Arsenal have not been at their best today, but he has.”

Saliba’s rise to prominence has been remarkable, considering Arsenal’s initial investment of just £27 million and the uncertainty surrounding his future amidst loan spells. However, since establishing himself as a regular starter, Saliba’s performances have been nothing short of exceptional, earning him a nomination for the player of the season award.

Under the guidance of manager Mikel Arteta, the French defender continues to ascend, showcasing his class and resilience in crucial matches like today against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic lauded Saliba and his defensive partner Gabriel Magalhaes as the two most impressive pairs in the Premier League.

The two from Arsenal [William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes] are doing well,” Vidic remarked to The Times. “Watching them, I feel they like defending and want the clean sheet. I like the mentality they show. And they are a partnership. That is important. Arsenal, this season, have not been conceding many goals.”
