A former Tottenham defender has admitted that one Arsenal player has been superb for Mikel Arteta this season.

Ex-Tottenham player Stephen Kelly, who is known for his spell with the rival North London Club, has praised Arsenal star Martin Odegaard after his outstanding performances throughout the 22/23 campaign. Kelly admits that Odegaard had a legitimate chance to win this year’s Premier League Player of the Season.

The Arsenal captain was arguably Arsenal’s best player this season alongside Bukayo Saka, leading the Gunners to a Champions League spot and surprisingly challenging for the Premier League title this season. His winning mentaility, leadership and quality made Arsenal not only one of the best teams in the league but one of the best teams in the world this season according to the stats.

Martin Odegaard was one of Arsenal’s most important players this season, illustrated by the Gunners offering their captain a new long-term contract, with a significant pay increase to reward his outstanding performances this season.

Kelly says that it hurts him to compliment an Arsenal player but he still had to give his flowers to one of the best in the game in a BBC interview:

Kelly on Martin Odegaard: “Honestly, as much as it pains me with Arsenal, I think [Martin] Odegaard has been exceptional. I think the way he has driven that team, they’re so young and for him to step up and hold the mantle the way he did, I think it’s a superb season from him.”

Odegaard looks to add to the best season of his career so far with Arsenal aiming to push for the league title again next season.
