Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar has affirmed the club’s commitment to strengthening its squad after securing Jorginho to a contract extension. The midfielder’s decision ends speculation about his future and bolsters Arsenal’s ambitions ahead of what promises to be a pivotal summer for the club.

Jorginho’s renewal marks a significant milestone for the Gunners, with Edu emphasising the player’s embodiment of Arsenal’s values. As the club sets its sights on major trophies, the move underscores their determination to support manager Mikel Arteta in the upcoming transfer window.

Addressing the club’s transfer priorities, Edu outlined the need for reinforcements in defence, midfield, and attack. Additionally, Arsenal are poised to enter the market for a goalkeeper, with Aaron Ramsdale’s departure imminent.

“We’re very happy to have Jorgi sign a contract extension with us,” said Edu. “He represents what we stand for here at Arsenal with his professionalism and success. It’s great that Jorginho remains with us as we continue building to be better and stronger.”

Manager Mikel Arteta echoed Edu’s sentiments, praising Jorginho’s integral role within the team since his arrival from Chelsea in January 2023. Arteta emphasised Jorginho’s leadership qualities and unique playing style, highlighting his positive impact on the entire squad.


“Jorgi is such an important part of our team, a role model with great leadership skills and a unique playing style ability which makes everybody better around him on the pitch,” said Arteta. “We’re very pleased that Jorgi and his family have committed with us, and we’re all excited to continue this journey together.”

While the midfielder expressed his delight at remaining with the club, and the privilege of being part of the Arsenal family.

“I’m really, really happy to stay,” Jorginho said. “Because it’s a privilege to be a part of this family. The way I felt involved and how I felt really in a good place. It’s not always like that, so when you feel something like this, it’s something important.”
