In the aftermath of Arsenal’s commanding 3-1 triumph over Liverpool on Sunday, midfielder Declan Rice has acknowledged the fierce competition for the top spot in the Premier League.

Bukayo Saka provided Arsenal with a 14th-minute lead, complementing their dominance in the game. The first half showcased a flawless performance until William Saliba found himself in a dilemma, allowing Luiz Diaz to poke the ball. The deflection off Gabriel Magalhaes resulted in an own goal on the stroke of half-time.

In the second half, Arsenal regained control when Gabriel Martinelli capitalized on a defensive mistake involving Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson Becker, restoring the lead for the Gunners. Substitute Leandro Trossard ensured the game was beyond the visitors by grabbing a late goal, reflecting Arsenal’s dominance.

Despite the euphoria surrounding Arsenal’s significant win, Rice pointed out that several teams, including Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, pose strong challenges for the coveted position.

Rice, who exhibited a stellar performance alongside Jorginho in midfield, emphasised the depth of competition in the league. Mikel Arteta’s strategic brilliance was evident as the team executed the game plan flawlessly, showcasing their potential to contend for the title.

The victory not only propelled Arsenal up the league table but also provided a crucial boost to the team’s confidence following a setback against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Despite the celebratory atmosphere, Rice remained grounded and cautious about prematurely speculating on title contention.

In an interview with beIN Sports after the match, the midfielder deflected questions about Arsenal’s potential title aspirations and instead highlighted the impressive form of both Aston Villa and Tottenham.

Taking a pragmatic approach, Rice remarked, “Look, I think you have to take it one game at a time. This league is so volatile. It’s up and down all the time. You can move positions. Aston Villa are playing very well. Spurs are playing very well. There’s some really, really good teams in the league this year. It’s one game at a time.”

While some Arsenal fans might be uneasy hearing Declan Rice praise Tottenham, many would likely agree with the cautious optimism expressed by the midfielder. The title race remains wide open, with Manchester City holding a slight advantage.
