Arsenal’s loanee Marquinhos made his long awaited debut for his new team Norwich in the Championship this weekend. The 19-year old Brazilian joined the Canaries on a loan in January until the end of the season.
Marquinhos had to wait five gameweeks to make his debut for the Championship side, however he did not disappoint when he finally got his opportunity. He was included in the starting eleven this weekend against Cardiff City at home, where Norwich comfortably won 2-0.
The Brazilian was a real menace from the very start of the game. Firstly, in the 33rd minute he laid off the ball on the edge of the box for Norwich midfielder Gabriel Sara who found the bottom right corner with a powerful shot. Then just four minutes later, Marquinhos was in the right place in the box to meet the cutback from the left side from Onel Hernandez and bury the ball into the right corner of the goal.
One game, one goal & one assist. Not a bad start to life in the Championship for the Arsenal loanee.

Marquinhos was later subbed off in the 59th minute since he still isn’t ready for the full 90 minutes. In those 59 minutes he scored and assisted once, with also having 83% pass percentage and 6 ball recoveries (FotMob).
After the game, Norwich boss David Wagner was full of praise for the Brazilian saying:
“You can’t ask for more in your first game than a first start, first goal, first assist, even if we know, and he knows as well, we have a lot of work to do with him. I’m very pleased for him.”
He also praised Marquinhos’s mentality, by stating:
“He’s a very calm guy, and a very smart guy as well. He understands football and he understood as well what happened so far. We should not forget he is very young, just 19, and when he came here he got injured and it took a little bit of time.”
There is no doubt that Marquinhos will be a fantastic asset to Norwich in their pursuit for Premier League football this season, and I bet the Canaries’ fans can’t wait to see what can he do in their next game already.
