Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman believes that the club will view this season as a significant advancement, even if they fall short of securing their first Premier League title since 2004.

Mikel Arteta’s team must defeat Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday and hope Manchester City fails to win against West Ham to have a chance at the championship.

Regardless of the outcome, Seaman, the ex-England international, emphasised the positive strides Arsenal has made this year. Speaking toBBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast, he stated, “It’s another step forward. After what happened last season when we had a little wobble towards the end, even being in contention was, I felt, ahead of schedule.

“Now, Mikel has transformed Arsenal into genuine league contenders. It’s so pleasing we’re back at this level. We’ve not been there for quite a while and to be contenders is a great achievement for Mikel.”

Seaman is confident that Arsenal will carry the positive momentum from this season into the next. “Definitely,” he said, when asked if Arsenal will take confidence into the future.

“But you still need to add to the squad, whether that is a striker or a defender as cover. We saw what happened last season when we got injuries to vital parts of our team – it really affected us. We need cover, just like Manchester City have got. They’ve got cover in every position.”

Manchester City bolstered their title chances by defeating Tottenham on Tuesday, putting the race in their hands. However, the title remains undecided as the final day approaches.

Arsenal must overcome 15th-placed Everton and rely on West Ham to disrupt City’s campaign at the Etihad, where Pep Guardiola’s side needs only three points to claim their fourth consecutive Premier League crown.

With the title still up for grabs on the final day, the Premier League has made logistical arrangements to ensure a seamless trophy presentation. There are two identical trophies – one with the current holders and another kept by the Premier League for such occasions. These will be stationed at both the Etihad Stadium and the Emirates Stadium.

Identical podiums and pyrotechnics will be set up at each venue, and the trophy will not be engraved until after it has been lifted by the champions. To ensure the celebrations are smooth, a set of 40 winner’s medals will be available at both stadiums, ready for immediate distribution to the victorious players.
