It’s no secret Ben White is a bit different from your ordinary footballer. The 26-year-old is one of the best right-backs in the Premier League, however that may surprise you if you knew what he was like away from the football pitch.

While many players are football fans before they become professional footballers, the same can’t be said for Ben White who has said in the past he doesn’t like watching football outside of work.

Ben White on not watching football at home: “Football is so intense. You come in every day giving 100 per cent. All I want to do is go home and not think about it, then come in in the morning fresh and ready to give 100% again.

“I watch myself for analytical reasons. I watch England, maybe, but I’m always busy doing something. I wouldn’t just sit down and watch a game.

“I didn’t ever watch football when I was younger. I still don’t now. I just loved the game, I was always playing it, never watching. So I don’t know too much about the older generations, but I know Patrick Vieira was a very good player. But I don’t know the details.”

Leicester City centre-back, Conor Coady knows Ben White from their time together away with the England Squad. Coady has been discussing the fact the Arsenal defender doesn’t watch football and although he says White is a great lad, it still shocks him that he doesn’t enjoy watching the game.

Conor Coady on Ben White: “I remember having my mind blown that Assou-Ekotto at Spurs said he hated footy, and it’s a job. That’s mad isn’t it? I found it mad when Ben White said he doesn’t watch football.

“I can tell you that’s the truth as well by the way, that is the truth, he’s mad, he’s mad. But again, someone like Ben, most lads like footy, but he’s a top fella as well, when we went to the World Cup we had a chat about loads of things, but I do fully agree, when you hear people say it’s just a job, it’s not.”

However Ben White likes to spend his time away from the pitch is up to him and it’s clearly working considering how well he’s performed for the Gunners over the last year. White has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent and reliable players since he joined the club from Brighton which is why Mikel Arteta is such a huge fan.
