Legendary former Arsenal manager of Arsene Wenger has lauded the prowess of Robert Pires’ right foot, suggesting that it was on par with that of Thierry Henry, another iconic figure in the club’s history.

During his illustrious tenure at Arsenal, Wenger oversaw the development of numerous exceptional players, many of whom flourished under his guidance. Pires was among these stars.

Wenger’s praise comes as no surprise, considering Pires’ remarkable contributions to Arsenal’s success during his six-year spell at the club. Signed from Marseille for a modest fee of £5 million in July 2000, Pires quickly established himself as one of Arsenal’s greatest players of the Premier League era.

In a recent interview with Goal, Wenger was asked to identify a player he had managed who possessed the best right foot. Initially hesitant to single out one player, Wenger eventually mentioned Pires, saying that the winger’s right foot was just as formidable as Henry’s.

“Yes, maybe (Henry), but there was Pires as well. We must not forget Pires. The inside of the right foot of Pires was something. With Thierry, they make a pair,” remarked Wenger.

Pires’ impact extended beyond statistics, as he played a crucial role in Arsenal’s famous ‘Invincibles’ season, contributing 19 goals and 13 assists across all competitions. Known for his exceptional control and precision, Pires scored some memorable goals with his right foot, to earn his status as one of Arsenal’s all-time greats.
