Arsenal have been given a huge boost to their hopes of winning their first Premier League title in 20 years ahead of Sunday’s North London derby, as the title race takes another twist.

Liverpool tonight faced a trip away at Goodison Park, where they played bitter rivals Everton, and shockingly lost 2-0, as they slip further behind Arsenal in the league.

The result, coupled with Arsenal’s 5-0 thrashing of Chelsea last night, sees Jurgen Klopp’s side three points off of the Gunners, with a far inferior goal difference.

Many have suggested that the title race, after Liverpool’s loss, is now a two-horse race, but Manchester City still hold all the cards with two games in hand over Arsenal, and just a four-point gap separating the sides.

Speaking after the game, Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk said: “If we play like this, we’ve no chance to consider ourselves in the title race.

“Everyone has to look in the mirror and look at their own performances, if they really give everything, and ask if they wanna win the league!”

This Sunday sees Mikel Arteta’s side travel to face North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who will be hoping to derail Arsenal’s title hopes, but the boost of the last few games may well carry the Gunners over the line.

Arsenal know that they will likely require a perfect end to the season if they are to have any chance of beating Manchester City to record their first Premier League title win in 20 years, and Sunday’s game will come as a big test of their credentials to do so.
