Ben White was in the headlines last week for asking not to be called up to the England squad, and now one of his Arsenal teammates is looking to convince him to return to the national setup.

White infamously left the England squad during the 2022 Qatar World Cup, after an apparent row with assistant manager Steve Holland, though the national team have always denied these rumours.

Since then, White has not received a call-up and, ahead of the current international break, reportedly asked especially to not be selected as part of the squad.

This led to a massive fallout on social media with many suggesting that he should never play for England again, while others, particularly Arsenal fans, sided with White and had sympathy for his situation.

But now Arsenal and England midfielder Declan Rice has said that he will speak with White in an attempt to convince him to return to the national setup.

Speaking ahead of England’s clash against Belgium, where Rice will captain the Three Lions for the first time, the 25-year-old confirmed: “When I go back to Arsenal, I’ll speak to Ben White… and hopefully he does change his mind on England.”

He also went on to insist that White would add real quality to the England side, saying: “It’d be a great addition to the squad. But it’s Ben’s decision and Ben’s life.

“I know Ben and Gareth [Southgate] spoke internally about it… I just hope he changes his mind. He’s such a good guy, he’s an unbelievable footballer.”

Having not been in an England squad for 16 months, it feels incredibly unlikely that White could feature at the European Championships (EUROS) this summer, even if he makes himself available, but the door looks to be far from closed on his England future.
