Arsenal striker, Gabriel Jesus was preferred to Tottenham’s Richarlison last night against Uruguay and he reportedly had a much better game than Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr.

Brazil went into the game as favourites, however ended up losing the match 2-0 with Darwin Nunez being the stand-out player for the opposition. Despite the loss, Gabriel Jesus was one of Brazil’s better players on the night with Globo Esporte voting the striker as one of the best players during the 90 minutes.

Gabriel Jesus has been in good form for Arsenal so far this season, although his goal contributions may not reflect that having only scored one Premier League goal in six appearances. It was the same story for the striker while away on international duty with another decent performance ending up with no goals scored.

Gabriel Jesus

Brazil named a very strong starting line-up last night with the attack made up of Gabriel Jesus, Neymar, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo so it was a surprise Uruguay managed to keep a clean sheet last night.

Globo Esporte haven’t been kind to most players in their ratings, with just two Brazil stars receiving a higher score than Jesus’ 6/10.

On Gabriel Jesus’ performance: “Another player who did not sin by omission. Where as a reference man at the beginning of the match or a step back after Neymar’s injury, he looked for the game, looked for the ball and tried individual plays. A lot of desire, despite producing few clear chances.”

On the other hand, Vinicius Jr was given a 4/10 rating: “Very bad performance from the Real Madrid player. He did not take responsibility in the opportunities he had, even one-on-one, he made the wrong choices and seemed to see his confidence diminish over the course of the game.

“He sought to have difficulty executing the movements to approach the sector where the ball was, as Diniz requests, and was more stuck on the left side.”

Gabriel Jesus will now return to London to prepare for Arsenal’s game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The Brazilian’s confidence should be on the up despite the defeat last night, which he’ll be hoping to take into the big game on the weekend.
