Arsenal star William Saliba has admitted to Mikel Arteta he ‘would like to stay’ at the Emirates Stadium with his current contract set to expire at the end of next season.
Negotiations are still currently ongoing over a new contract, Kaya Kaynak has told GiveMeSport.
Gabriel Martinelli is the most recent Arsenal star to sign a contract extension this season & it’s also been reported Bukayo Saka has a verbal agreement in place to extend his stay in North London, with William Saliba expected to follow in his footsteps.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have made tying Saliba down to a new contract their next priority after reaching an agreement with Bukayo Saka. The contract extension isn’t complete yet, but it’s moving in the right direction.
Arsenal triggered a 12-month extension clause written into Saliba’s contract shortly before the turn of the year, giving themselves more time to hold negotiations as his agreement was initially due to expire this summer.
While Arsenal have reached a verbal agreement to extend Saka’s contract, Kaynak understands that discussions over a new deal for Saliba are still taking place.
“That one is maybe not as progressed as Saka’s contract. Those negotiations are still ongoing. Arsenal obviously triggered the option to extend his contract by a further year, so his contract, as things stand, expires in 2024.
Mikel Arteta has been very clear that he wants to keep Saliba. Apparently, Saliba has spoken to him and said that he would like to stay at the club.”
With the way Arsenal & William Saliba are performing this season there is no surprise the player wants to extend his stay in North London beyond next season.
The Frenchman has started all of Arsenal’s Premier League games this season & has built a great relationship with centre-back partner Gabriel.
It seems it’s just a matter of time before William Saliba puts pen to paper on a new deal at the Emirates Stadium…
