Aston Villa are reportedly preparing for another bid from Arsenal for their midfielder Douglas Luiz, despite rejecting three previous attempts from the Gunners.

The 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder, who joined Villa from Manchester City in 2019, has become a key figure at Villa Park, making over 150 Premier League appearances and earning recognition at the international level.

Arsenal’s interest in Luiz dates back to the summer of 2022 when they failed to secure his signature, despite making multiple offers. However, according to a report from the Mirror, which suggests that the Gunners are reigniting their pursuit of the midfielder as they seek reinforcements for their midfield.

Although Arsenal seemed to have shifted their focus elsewhere with the signings of Jorginho and Declan Rice, they are now reportedly back in contention for Luiz’s signature. Villa, facing interest in several of their players ahead of the summer transfer window, might be compelled to sell in order to fund their own acquisitions, particularly with a Champions League spot still within their sights.

Apart from Luiz, other Villa players such as Jacob Ramsey and Boubacar Kamara have also attracted interest from other clubs. However, Kamara’s season-ending injury might dampen potential suitors’ enthusiasm for a summer bid.

Despite earning significant revenue from player sales in recent transfer windows, Villa have also made substantial investments, such as acquiring winger Moussa Diaby and Pau Torres. The club remains active in the market, recently signing Morgan Rogers in the winter window.

Arsenal boss Arteta previously cited time constraints as a hindrance during their failed pursuit of Luiz in 2022. However, with renewed interest, Arsenal aim to secure the midfielder’s services this time around.

The competition for Luiz’s signature might not be limited to Arsenal, as reports from Spain suggest that Barcelona’s sporting director Deco is also monitoring the situation and could make a move if the price is right.
