Arsenal beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, the Gunners have now officially reached a new Premier League milestone.

The win represents Arsenal’s 27th this season, which is more than the club have ever achieved in a single Premier League campaign, including the famous 2003/04 invincible season, when Arsenal won on 26 occasions.

Speaking after the win, manager Mikel Arteta said: “It’s 27 wins in the Premier League, it’s the most in the history of this football club in 130 years. That’s not progress, that’s history.”

As well as being record-breaking, Arsenal’s win against Manchester United was a vitally important one, as it ensures that the Gunners’ title hopes will live on until the final day of the Premier League season, next Sunday.

Arteta’s side are, however, reliant on their title rivals, Manchester City, dropping points in one of their two remaining league games – a trip away to Tottenham Hotspur and a final-day showdown at home to West Ham.

As well as relying on a slip-up from Pep Guardiola’s side, Arsenal also know that they will almost certainly need to win on the final day, when they host Everton at the Emirates Stadium – and the title could even be decided on goal difference (for which Arsenal boast a three-goal advantage over the Cityzens).

Arsenal’s club-record number of Premier League wins this season should come as no surprise, given that they have conceded five fewer goals (28) than any other team in the league this season, as well as scoring the second-highest number of goals, just two shy of Manchester City’s tally.
