Arsenal are turning to their arch-rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, with a hope for assistance in their pursuit of Premier League glory, as Spurs prepare to take on title contenders Manchester City on Tuesday.

The Gunners are banking on a favourable outcome from this clash to bolster their chances of clinching their first Premier League title since 2004. Arsenal defender William Saliba has affirmed that the entire squad will be throwing their support behind Spurs.

Following Arsenal’s crucial 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, their dreams of securing the Premier League title were reignited. Mikel Arteta’s side currently sits at the top of the league table. However, Manchester City, who remain in contention for the title, could seal their fourth consecutive championship if they emerge victorious in their remaining two matches.

Ahead of the pivotal clash between Tottenham and Manchester City, Saliba emphasised that Arsenal’s derby rivalries would be set aside as they throw their weight behind Ange Postecoglou’s team. Saliba expressed confidence in Spurs’ competitive spirit, stating, “They will try their best to win,” despite the reluctance of their fans.

He underscored the significance of Tottenham’s aspirations for Champions League qualification and hoped for a stellar performance from them.

Reflecting on Arsenal’s history of seeking assistance from rivals in title races, the spotlight shifted to the memorable 1999 encounter when Spurs faced Manchester United on the final day of the season. Although Spurs’ efforts fell short, the significance of unity in football’s competitive landscape remained evident.

Arsenal’s recent triumph at Old Trafford was hailed as a significant milestone, with Saliba acknowledging the team’s defensive resilience. Leandro Trossard’s decisive goal secured the much-needed victory, while Saliba praised the collective defensive effort that thwarted Manchester United’s attacks.

Looking ahead, Saliba emphasised the importance of maintaining defensive solidity and unity within the team, echoing sentiments shared by teammate Kai Havertz, who expressed unwavering support for Tottenham in their upcoming clash.

“It was another strong performance defensively. It’s not only the defence, it’s everyone, the midfield and the attackers.

“We defend all together and we have to be happy to keep a clean sheet, because it’s not every time they don’t score here. We are so happy and we need to keep going.”

Kai Havertz added: “I am going to be the biggest fan of Tottenham ever. Let’s hope for the best.”
