Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been honoured by his homeland of Spain with the prestigious Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic, marking a significant recognition of his contributions to the nation and international relations.

The Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic is a distinguished Spanish civil order of chivalry and honour, granted by the King of Spain and the Grand Chancellor, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Established in 1815, this accolade is reserved for individuals and institutions deemed to have rendered extraordinary services to Spain or to have advanced international relations and cooperation.

Arteta was presented with this esteemed order at the Spanish Embassy in London, surrounded by his family, friends, and key figures from Arsenal who gathered to share in this momentous occasion.

Expressing his gratitude, Arteta stated, “I am both humbled and honoured to receive The Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the King of Spain and the Grand Chancellor, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. 

“It is a truly wonderful moment to accept this award today at the Embassy of Spain in London, together with so many people who have been inspirational to me during my life.”

Acknowledging the important role of his loved ones in his journey, Arteta dedicated the award to those who have supported and shaped his path, expressing his heartfelt appreciation to his family.

The Spanish ambassador to the UK, Jose Pascual Marco, commended the decision to honour Arteta, stating, “It is a pleasure to bestow the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Isabel la Catolica to Mikel Arteta. 

“Throughout his successful career as a Spanish, British, and international football player, and now as Arsenal manager, he has shown outstanding leadership and impeccable sportsmanship.”

Marco emphasised Arteta’s role in strengthening the bond between Spain and Britain through the universal language of football, underscoring his influence as a respected and beloved figure in both football communities.
