An Arsenal loanee is finally set for a return to action for his loan club, after being injured for three months, in a massive boost for the youngster’s development.

Tyreece John-Jules has spent this season on loan with League One promotion chasers Derby County, but made just 12 appearances for the Rams before his most recent injury, which has been a hamstring issue – ruling him out since January.

John-Jules also missed two months of action at the start of the season with a separate thigh issue, which has seen his development this season hit something of a wall.

Despite this, Derby manager Paul Warne has revealed that the 23-year-old is set for a return to training as early as next week, as he races to be involved in the Rams final, and potentially promotion-deciding, game of the season against Carlisle United later this month.

On the young striker’s impending return, Warne said: “I am going to speak to him in a bit because he is coming back into training next week.

“That is good news and if he looks amazing and is better than everybody else he could play the following week – I don’t care. But if we are in the play-offs, he will be here for that. I want him to be here with the group. He has played a part this season and he is a great kid. I will look forward to seeing his smiley face.”

When he sustained his most recent injury, many expected John-Jules to miss the remainder of the season, and Warne also spoke of his devastation after the news back in January: “I did feel for him at the time, in fact I was mortified. He is a lovely kid. I know footballers get a bad rap at times, but they are all mostly really nice kids who have talent.

“I saw how hard he worked to get himself in really good shape and to have that taken off him as he did was horrific. I knew the importance of the injury at the time so for him to come back is great. And fair play to Arsenal for letting us have him back.”

John-Jules has scored two goals in 14 appearances in all competitions this season, and will be hoping to impress Mikel Arteta in the coming weeks and months, as his future with the Gunners looks increasingly bleak.

Speaking previously on his future, the 23-year-old said: “I’ve had five loans now and each one feels like you’re getting further from the first team. Talks will have to happen at some point – whether I stay, go out on loan or leave on a permanent.

“I just want to settle somewhere, whether that’s signing a new contract with Arsenal or going somewhere else on a permanent. I think it’s time to settle down and just focus and chill instead of hopping from loan to loan.”
