Arsenal loanee, Albert Sambi Lokonga put in an incredible display for Luton Town during their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Kenilworth Road on Sunday evening.

Despite the defeat the midfielder, on loan from Arsenal, put in a very commanding display against the likes of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. The Luton Town players were looking for Sambi Lokonga, as well as Ross Barkley, at every opportunity with them two dictating the game, particularly in the second-half.

The 24-year-old midfielder’s best moment came midway through the second-half when he made a goal-saving block to keep Manchester United’s lead to just the one goal.

Bruno Fernandes was one-on-one against Thomas Kaminski. The Manchester United man rounded the Luton Town goalkeeper, but Lokonga appeared out of no where to block the shot and keep his side in the game.

Along with the goal-saving block, Sambi Lokonga also had many other good moments throughout the game. The Arsenal loanee played the full 90′ minutes, had 87 touches with a very impressive passing accuracy of 96%. He also had a 100% dribble success rate while winning three ground duels and winning two free-kicks.

Sambi Lokonga has been one of Luton Town’s best players so far this season, and is a big reason why the club currently find themselves outside of the relegation zone.

Due to the signings of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz, Mikel Arteta couldn’t guarantee Lokonga enough minutes this season. The Arsenal manager decided to send the 24-year-old out on loan to gain much needed Premier League experience and there’s no doubt the loan spell has been a success so far.

After an inconsistent start, the Belgian midfielder has started the last eight Premier League games under Rob Edwards at Luton Town this season. If he carries on this great form, Mikel Arteta will have a big decision to make ahead of next season.

Sambi Lokonga does seem to have the ability to be a useful squad player for the Gunners. However it remains to be seen whether the player would be happy with that kind of role, especially after the first-team opportunities he’s received at Luton Town while on loan this season.

Either way Lokonga’s top performances are a big positive for Arsenal. The club will be able to generate a pretty decent fee for the 24-year-old if Mikel Arteta decides he’s surplus for requirements come the summer.
