Kieran Tierney joined Real Sociedad from Arsenal on loan during the summer window and he’s been enjoying life in Spain in the first few months of the season. However he’s now set to face a spell on the sidelines after picking up a potential long-term injury during Sociedad’s match against Athletic Bilbao.

It’s not only a big blow for his club, but also his country as well as Scotland are scheduled to face Spain in a Euro 2024 qualifier in under two weeks time.

Ruairidh Barlow, A Spanish football reporter, said this on the Arsenal loanee’s injury: “Kieran Tierney mid-sprint, pulls up holding the back of his thigh. Looks unlikely he’ll be around for a few weeks. Scotland play Spain in 11 days. Tierney on the sideline lying down, head in hands after going off.”

Kieran Tierney was substituted on the 24th minute after appearing to pick up an injury to his right thigh which left the Scotsman on the deck in a lot of pain. He left the pitch very angry as he threw two bottles on the floor before heading down the tunnel. Kieran Tierney will now undergo scans to determine the extent of the injury, however all signs point to a muscle tear.

Kieran Tierney has been an important player for Real Sociedad since joining the club. The left-back has made four appearances in Spain so far this season, tallying a total of 272 minutes and providing one assist. His injury will likely rule him out of Champions League action for his club this week and beyond.

Arsenal signed The Scotsman from Celtic in 2019 for €27m and the club will be closely monitoring the situation. He is currently contracted with Arsenal until 2026. Tierney was unfortunate with injuries during his time in North London and his luck in Spain is no different after this recent setback.

Tierney’s injury is unfortunate for both club and country. While it may disrupt Real Sociedad‘s immediate plans, especially in the Champions League, it’s also a concern for Scotland‘s Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.
