Miguel Azeez joined Championship side, Wigan in January on loan for the remainder of the season. It’s now May and the Arsenal loanee has only made two appearances since the start of the year…

Azeez spent the first half the season on loan at Ibiza in the Spanish Segunda Division. The 20-year-old made 11 appearances in Spain before leaving to join Wigan in the January transfer window.

However, Azeez’s stint on loan in the Championship has been a failure as he has made just two appearances for Wigan since joining the club. Both of these appearances came in the first month of his loan spell under Kolo Toure.

Since new manager, Shaun Maloney came in, he hasn’t made a single matchday squad in the last three months which lead to an exchange on the pitch after Wigan’s relegation to League One was confirmed this weekend.

Wigan Athletic manager Shaun Maloney was involved in a heated exchange with the brother of Arsenal’s on-loan midfielder Miguel Azeez. An injury-time equaliser sealed a 1-1 draw for Reading at Madejski Stadium on Saturday, a result which ensured that Wigan will drop down to League One next season.

Azzez’s brother, Femi, is currently playing for Reading and came on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Wigan.

According to Wigan Today, Femi Azeez, took the opportunity to berate Maloney about his brother’s lack of playing time on the pitch after the final whistle.

Miguel Azeez was not in Wigan’s matchday squad for the game and instead played for the Under-21s in their 3-2 defeat to Millwall on Friday.

Speaking before the game, Femi Azeez said of his brother’s situation at Wigan:

“He hasn’t really had an easy time there. He started with Kolo Toure and the new manager came in and hasn’t really trusted him, which has been disappointing.

Hopefully he plays, but if it doesn’t happen then it is what it is. We’ve got to focus on us and getting the three points.”

Miguel Azeez’s Arsenal contract is up at the end of the season and the player is expected to move on this summer on a free transfer.
