Arsenal were handed a huge boost on the weekend as they attempt to win their first league title in 20 years. Liverpool and Manchester played out a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Sunday which means Mikel Arteta’s side now sit top of the table with ten games to go. However it only gets better for the Gunners…

During the huge clash at Anfield yesterday, Manchester City goal keeper Ederson was forced off the pitch through injury in the second-half. The Brazilian shot stopper was beaten to the ball by Darwin Nunez before clattering in to the Liverpool striker to give away a penalty.

Ederson missed the last 35′ minutes of the game and it gets worse for Manchester City as he’s now been ruled out for three to four weeks with a thigh injury. This means he will likely miss the game against Arsenal at the end of the month which is a huge boost for the Gunners.

Stefan Ortega is a more than competent keeper, however he’s not Ederson and Mikel Arteta will fancy his team’s chances going into the game at the Etihad in three weeks time.

The Gunners lost the Premier League title at this exact stadium last season when they were beaten 4-1 by the treble winners. Mikel Arteta will know his side need to get a positive result against Manchester City if they want to keep the race for the title in their hands going into the last nine games.

For the best chance of winning their first league title in 20 years, Arsenal will need their full squad available and that’s exactly what their situation is now close to looking like.

Takehiro Tomiyasu returned to full first-team training today after being unavailable since returning from the Asia Cup last month. The Japanese defender will provide a huge boost for the Gunners, as well as Oleksandr Zinchenko also recently returning to the side.

Jakub Kiwior has held down the left-back spot extremely well over the last month, but having multiple options available going into the business end of the season can only be a benefit for Mikel Arteta.

Another big boost for the Gunners is Jurrien Timber is now very close to returning to the pitch. The Dutch international has been unavailable since sustaining an ACL injury on his Premier League debut.

However Timber has been training with the first-team for around a month and is set to be included in a matchday squad very soon with the player expected to play again before the end of the season.

Mikel Arteta’s side take on FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, before their attention turns to the game at the Etihad at the end of the month.
