Arsenal face the prospect of a trip away to Manchester City later this month, in what could prove to be a title-deciding game, and have been handed a huge boost ahead of the tie.

Goalkeeper Ederson was substituted in the 56th minute during Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool last weekend with an injury to his leg, and is now poised for a spell on the sidelines.

It has been reported that the Brazilian shot-stopper will be sidelined for around four weeks, which would mean he will be unavailable when Arsenal travel to the Etihad at the end of the month, in a game that could go a long way to deciding the destination of this year’s Premier League title.

On average, the 30-year-old has conceded less than a goal per game this season, which means that his possible absence is a huge boost for Arsenal’s hopes of a positive result at the Etihad, where the Gunners have not won since 2015.

Barring any other injuries, Stefan Ortega is expected to assume the starting role between the sticks in Ederson’s absence and, while he is certainly not of the same level, the German should not be underestimated.

Mikel Arteta’s side are without a win in their last ten visits to the Etihad, but know that they need a win if they want to stay at the top of the Premier League table as we enter the business end of the season.

This means that this boost could not come at a better time for Arsenal, as they look to take a huge step towards winning their first Premier League title in 20 years, after falling at the last hurdle last season.
