After three consecutive games without a win, Arsenal have ended their winless run after beating Aston Villa at Villa Park yesterday, with Mikel Arteta’s side having to come back from a goal behind twice to take all three points back to North London.
It was a game that had it all, from scraps between the players and benches, to open goal misses and a fantastic comeback from The Gunners. The Arsenal that came out in the second half was a completely different team from the one in the first half and that’s a sign of champions. It was another showing of the character and determination this team has.
The Premier League all time record goalscorer, Alan Shearer was full of praise for Mikel Arteta and his players. In the post match conversation on Match Of The Day, Alan Shearer said that this Arsenal team is mentally strong enough now to deal with setbacks and refused to be beaten.
The former Newcastle striker was also asked for his prediction on the title race, Alan Shearer’s prediction was as follows:
“I know Thomas Partey is out injured at the moment, but if Arsenal can get him back and then have a little bit of luck between now and the end of the season with keeping their key players fit, I think they will do it, I really do.
Based on the second-half, Arsenal deserved the three points today. But they didn’t just get the win, they sent a message out to Manchester City.
Sometimes you just need to find a way to win and they did that in the second-half. When you look back at the game against Man City [Arsenal lost 3-1], they made two huge errors and got punished for them. They missed some big chances as well and that was the difference between the teams.”
The second goal from Zinchenko and the third one from Jorginho were both scored from outside the area which isn’t something you’d normally associate with an Arsenal team. Alan Shearer praised Arsenal for their way of winning and he also stated that this is the way the real champions win games.
This Arsenal win was a very important one, made even more so with City dropping points shortly after. Arsenal now sit top of the Premier League again, clear of Manchester City by two points with a game in hand.
