Alan Shearer has selected his Premier League team of the week for the latest set of matches and he’s included Arsenal defender William Saliba in his team after his outstanding performance against Burnley.

Arsenal went into the game at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday having lost their first game of the season against Newcastle United in controversial fashion the week before. However Mikel Arteta got the perfect response from his players as Arsenal never really got out of second gear to secure all three points against a struggling Burnley side.

William Saliba was crucial for Arsenal, not just at the back, but also in the opponents penalty area as well after he scored his first goal of the season from a Leandro Trossard corner in the second-half.

The Frenchman played the full 90 minutes while making three clearances, two tackles, winning six duels, recording a passing accuracy of 92% on top of the goal scored.

Arsenal’s defence this season has looked one of the best in the league, with no team conceding fewer goals than the Gunners after 12 games played so far in 2023/24.

Alan Shearer for full of praise for William Saliba after his top performance against Burnley: “A faultless match from the Arsenal centre-back as he capped off a brilliant display with his first goal of the season.”

The Gunners signed William Saliba for just £27million in 2019 and the more he plays, the better that business is looking as he continues to perform at such a high level. There’s no doubt the Arsenal centre-back is one of the best in the league in his position and at 22-years-old, he’s only going to get better.

Arsenal are reliant on a few players remaining fit this season to win their first Premier League title in over 20 years and William Saliba is certainly one of them. He’s irreplaceable in the Arsenal defence as proved last season when the Gunners lost out on the title after he picked up a back injury in February.
