Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has spoken out on the team’s target for the upcoming Premier League season.
Ramsdale joined Arsenal from Sheffield United in 2021 for a fee of £30 million and has become a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s team after taking over the No. 1 position from Bernd Leno.
Having played a significant role in Arsenal’s title charge last season, Ramsdale firmly believes that the Gunners have what it takes to elevate their performance and challenge for the Premier League title.
Speaking to Kicker during Arsenal’s pre-season tour in Germany, the former Sheffield United goalkeeper addressed the disappointment of the previous season and outlined what he believes Arsenal needs to do to surpass Manchester City and claim the league title in the upcoming campaign.
“Win more games than them! You have to be almost perfect all season, we’ve seen that in recent years. Liverpool lost just once in the league but still failed to win the championship. You have to win your games and take points from them when you face them. And then of course you cross your fingers that they trip up a few times and you can take advantage of that.”

He added: “Naturally. We really want to win. We want to create a culture of winning here. At the end of the journey, we just have to win something, whether it’s the league or the cup. We set ourselves big goals that some might find unrealistic, but we want to be the best. Of course, it will be difficult with the strong competition in the Premier League, but we know that if we prepare well, we have a good chance of being one place up.”
Arsenal finished last season five points behind eventual champions Manchester City, having led the Premier League table for 248 days.
Reflecting what Arsenal could have done differently to win the league, Ramsdale stated, “It’s difficult when you’re up against a team that wins the treble. But we should only have looked at ourselves. There have been a few games that slipped out of our hands that we should have won. But you never win on the first try.”
Ramsdale also highlighted an area where Arsenal can improve, stating, “We need to be more consistent with our style, which many players first encountered last season. More consistency in playing our game without adapting to some opponents.”
Aaron Ramsdale is part of the squad that has traveled to the United States for the preseason tour, which will see Arsenal play MLS All-Stars, Manchester United, and FC Barcelona.
