Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko has been nominated for the Premier League Goal of the Month for November following his spectacular volley against Burnley.
Zinchenk, who joined Arsenal last summer for £32 million from Manchester City, showcased his extraordinary skill by executing a scissor-kick goal during the Gunners’ 3-1 victory over Burnley.
The 74th-minute strike added to his second goal tally for the club, elevating him to contention for the prestigious monthly award. Supporters now have the opportunity to cast their votes for the best goal scored across the league in November.
The breathtaking moment unfolded at the Emirates Stadium with Arsenal holding a 2-1 lead and aiming to secure the win. A corner from Leandro Trossard met the head of William Saliba, resulting in a rebound off the crossbar. Amidst the defensive chaos, Zinchenko positioned himself adeptly, maneuvering his feet to hook the ball over a cluster of defenders and past James Trafford, displaying remarkable agility and precision to find the net.
Zinchenko’s effort earned him a spot on the shortlist among eight contenders for the Goal of the Month award. The list features notable strikes, including Alejandro Garnacho’s overhead kick for Manchester United against Everton, individual displays from Simon Adringra of Brighton and Michael Olise of Crystal Palace, among others.
The competition also includes Mohammed Kudus’s scissor kick for West Ham United and Cameron Archer’s thunderous strike that secured Sheffield United’s first win of the season against Wolves. Additionally, Pablo Sarabia’s late winner for Sheffield United against Tottenham Hotspur and Raheem Sterling’s free-kick against Newcastle United complete the top eight nominations.
While Zinchenko’s goal has garnered well-deserved recognition, attention also falls on Garnacho’s impressive goal at Goodison Park, which remains a strong contender for the Goal of the Season award.
Garnacho’s swift 11-minute breakthrough for Manchester United involved a fluid team move featuring Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes. His powerful finish past goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, coupled with Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic ‘calma, calma’ celebration, further adds to the competition for the league’s most remarkable goal.
