Much to the annoyance of the fans, Arsenal had an expectedly quiet winter transfer window after their costly business during the summer. However, despite no first-team players saying goodbye to north London, Nottingham Forest enquired about 25 year-old keeper, Aaron Ramsdale.

The Englishman joined the Gunners from Bournemouth in the summer of 2021, and after overthrowing Bernd Leno to the top spot in his first few months in London, Ramsdale received the same fate as his German counterpart after David Raya was signed and promoted last summer.

Since his displacement, Ramsdale has only been used as a cup keeper, but after Arsenal were knocked out of both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, there is no clear way of the England international receiving any game-time until next season. With this said, there were rumours of many clubs, including Chelsea and Newcastle being interested in Ramsdale this January, but as expected, no talks or enquiries ever materialised.

Daniel Taylor, a senior football writer for The Athletic, reported that Ramsdale was one of multiple goalkeepers that Nuno Espírito Santo’s side enquired about. If the move surprisingly progressed, Ramsdale would then compete with former Arsenal teammate, Matt Turner, for the top spot between the sticks.

Of course, as expected, no more advances were made for the Englishman, and after showing interest in the likes of Koen Casteels, Rui Silva, Caoimhin Kelleher and Sam Johnstone, the ‘Tricky Trees’ eventually settled on Strasbourg’s Matz Sels.

Despite it being understandable if Ramsdale wanted to move away from the Emirates, with the Euros on the horizon, the ‘keeper has reportedly stayed professional and is focusing on improving himself at Arsenal. However, it is evident that Mikel Arteta rates his fellow Spaniard highly, and it seems inevitable that Ramsdale will make an emotional departure soon if the current situation stays the same.

My only concern about today is the officiating and VAR. The conspiracy theorist in me is saying that the Premier League will give favourable decisions to Liverpool to try ensure that there is a Jurgen Klopp story at the end of the season . We saw how they can manipulate results in through their decision making in the Chelsea game.
