The Arsenal player ratings against Manchester United in the club’s second game of the U.S pre-season tour ahead of the 2023/24 campaign…
Arsenal suffer their first defeat of pre-season as the Gunners lose 2-0 to Manchester United in New Jersey. First-half goals from Bruno Fernandes and Jason Sancho got the job done for Erik Ten Hag’s side. Mikel Arteta will be looking for a quick improvement from his side as the 2023/24 campaign gets one step closer.
Aaron Ramsdale – 4.0 – Should have done better for Manchester United’s opening goal. He’ll be disappointed with it, I’m sure. Also his distribution wasn’t up to the standard we’re used to but the pitch didn’t help.
Jurrien Timber – 7.0 – Arsenal’s best performer in a sloppy first-half. Really composed on the ball and comfortable playing the inverted right back role. Looked good throughout.
William Saliba – 6.0 – Standard Saliba performance. Comfortable on the ball and couldn’t do much for either goal.
Gabriel – 5.5 – Was at fault for Manchester United’s second goal but other than that he was good.
Takehiro Tomiyasu – 6.0 –Â Could have done with some help from his teammates in the first-half, was very isolated at times.
Declan Rice – 6.0 – A difficult first-half playing the defensive midfield role alone with two number 10’s in front of him. It didn’t really work. He needed more support and players closer to him.
Martin Odegaard – 6.0 – Tried to control the game as best he could but the pitch made it difficult, as well as Arsenal’s performance.

Kai Havertz – 5.0 –Â Struggled in the LCM role and really couldn’t get into the game. It’s early days but hopefully we see more from the German soon. Today wasn’t very good.
Bukayo Saka – 7.0 – Beat Luke Shaw for fun in the first-half and created some good chances. Unfortunately his teammates couldn’t finish them off.
Eddie Nketiah – 5.5 – Difficult game for him. Should have scored in the second-half after a clever free-kick from Martin Odegaard but he put the ball wide of the post.
Gabriel Martinelli – 6.0 –Â Should have scored in the first-half when Tom Heaton made a great double save for United. Made a great recovery run to stop a United counter-attack in the second-half as well.
Substitutes:
Kieran Tierney – 6.5 – played 45 minutes & looked good when he came on. One of Arsenal’s better players today.
Gabriel Jesus – 6.0 – played 30 minutes.
Thomas Partey – 6.0 – played 30 minutes.
Ben White – 6.0 – played 30 minutes.
Jorginho – 6.0 – played 20 minutes.
Emile Smith Rowe – 6.0 – played 20 minutes.
Leandro Trossard – 6.0 – played 20 minutes.
Fabio Vieira – 6.0 – played 20 minutes.
