Arsenal travelled to Portugal earlier today as they prepare to take on FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League round-of-16 tomorrow night. The Gunners are looking to win their first Champions League knockout match in over ten years.

In fact the last time Arsenal progressed through the Champions League round-of-16 was in 2010 against tomorrow’s opposition. Arsene Wenger’s side beat FC Porto 6-2 on aggregate 14 years ago, with Mikel Arteta’s team looking to do something similar tomorrow night.

Ahead of the game Mikel Arteta has decided to name one of Hale End’s best young talents in the travelling squad for Wednesday night’s clash in Portugal.

According to Jeorge Bird, 16-year-old Ethan Nwaneri has travelled with the Arsenal squad to Portugal ahead of the big game.

It’s already well known how highly Mikel Arteta rates Nwaneri, after the Arsenal manager made him the youngest ever player in Premier League history last season. The academy product was 15 years and 181 days old when he came off the bench against Brentford to make a late cameo.

He now has two Arsenal senior appearances under his belt, getting 13 minutes off the bench in the 6-0 hammering of West Ham earlier this month.

Ethan Nwaneri could potentially get the opportunity to make his UEFA Champions League debut tomorrow night, depending on the how the game plays out.

Earlier this season the hugely talented young midfielder was on the bench for games in the competition against RC Lens in France, as well as at home to PSV. However he didn’t manage to come off the bench for either.
