Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn was full of praise for Arsenal & their Brazilian star Gabriel Martinelli, after the victory at Villa Park last time out.
The game against Aston Villa was the first game that Gabriel Martinelli didn’t start this season. His left-wing position was covered by Arsenal’s January signing, Leandro Trossard. Despite being one of the better performers for the Gunners, his inconsistency in the last couple of weeks meant that for the first time this season Martinelli was out of the starting eleven.
However, Martinelli came on in 68th minute, and provided Arsenal with the much needed energy to win the game. His fantastic all-around play was crowned with a last minute goal which meant the Gunners ran out 4-2 winners in the end.
Nigel Winterburn praised Gabriel Martinelli for his mentality by saying that no player likes to be dropped from the starting eleven, but the way he respond to that is very important.
In an interview for TalkSport, Nigel Winterburn said:
“I’m pleased he responded in the right way. You have to do that as a professional because it’s disrespectful to the rest of the squad if you don’t. It was the perfect attitude from Martinelli.”
He also said that he is pleased that Martinelli got his goal in the last minute, since that goal crowned a very dynamic and energized performance.
So far this season, Gabriel Martinelli scored eight and assisted two goals in 23 appearances in the Premier League, averaging a rating of 7.29, rated by FotMob.
It is expected Gabriel Martinelli will be back in the starting eleven when Arsenal travel to the King Power Stadium to take on Leicester City this weekend.
