Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has provided a fitness update on his squad ahead of a mid-week clash against Chelsea followed by a massive game against Arsenal on the weekend.
Some of the Reds’s most important players have missed a lot of games this season, which has directly translated to Liverpool’s season being behind expectations. In today’s press conference Klopp spoke about two players who are expected to be back soon in Luis Diaz and Thiago Alcantara.
Luis Diaz hasn’t featured for Liverpool since the match in the reverse fixture against Arsenal at the Emirates on the 9th of October. When asked about his availability, Klopp answered:
“Obviously it was long ago that he had the initial injury but when he came back to training in Dubai, it looked outstanding until he got injured again. So we have to make sure we are patient in that moment.
This week, I wouldn’t say Arsenal is completely out of the picture but it’s rather unlikely. But after that then Luis will be back.”
Luis Diaz is close to a return, however isn’t expected to feature against Arsenal at Anfield which is probably a positive for the Gunners.
Thiago Alcantara picked up a muscle injury on the 9th of February & the Liverpool boss has also provided an update the Spaniard’s fitness by saying:
“We had Thiago yesterday in training, in normal team training, which is good as well, but he’s not available for tomorrow of course, so we will see how he reacts. That’s it.”
Thiago could feature against Arsenal, however it’s unlikely the 31-year-old will start the game due to it being his game back in a long time.
It’s a massive game that awaits Arsenal at Anfield on the weekend, with it being a ground the Gunners haven’t won at since 2012, but this Arsenal team is different and they have another chance to prove that on Sunday.
Arsenal are hopeful that William Saliba will be available for the weekend’s game, after the Frenchman didn’t feature in the Gunners last two Premier League games.
