Arsenal centre-back, Gabriel was forced to come off in the second-half of Arsenal’s victory against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night. Here is an update on the Brazilian’s fitness ahead of the Gunners’ trip up north this weekend…

Gabriel has been a constant part of the Arsenal team this season. He’s started all of the Gunners’ 34 league games this season, scoring three goals & has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent performers throughout the campaign.

Against an in-form Newcastle United side who look set to achieve Champions League football next season, Mikel Arteta will be hoping his first choice centre-back is available to start the game on Sunday, despite picking up a knock against Chelsea last time out.

According to Kaya Kaynak, Gabriel Magalhaes is expected to be fit to face Newcastle United at the weekend despite Mikel Arteta’s immediate post-game concern on Tuesday.

Kaya Kaynak on Gabriel’s injury:

“The explanation of why he kept going down and carrying on it wasn’t a muscular injury it was an ankle injury sustained with an impact with Aaron Ramsdale. Those are usually ones you can run off.

He’s looking good, he should be okay for Newcastle is what l’ve heard, it’s a positive update.”

Mikel Arteta didn’t want to Gove much away on Gabriel’s fitness by saying: “We’ll have to see tomorrow.”

The Arsenal boss also provided an update on William Saliba: “Not a lot of progress, he is still not able to have activity around the first-team.”

Arsenal lost at St James’ Park last season which handed Spurs the advantage in the race for top four. This time around there’s more at stake with the Gunners’ needing a win in order to take the title race down with Manchester City down to the final three games.

Mikel Arteta will be hoping his side can produce a better performance than they did last season…
