Gabriel Agbonlahor has expressed his belief that only one Arsenal player would attract interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Acknowledging the transformation of Arsenal’s fortunes under the stewardship of Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar, Agbonlahor praised their efforts in building a formidable squad both on and off the pitch. With the duo’s influence, Arsenal have emerged as serious contenders for the title, a far cry from their previous struggles.

Last summer marked a significant turning point for Arsenal, evidenced by their high-profile acquisitions of Kai Havertz and Declan Rice. Traditionally, Arsenal have been on the receiving end of talent raids from rivals, but now they are asserting their stature by competing for top-tier players like Rice, challenging even the likes of Manchester City and Pep Guardiola’s allure.

Despite the apparent star power within Arsenal’s ranks, Agbonlahor singled out William Saliba as the sole player he believed would attract Real Madrid’s interest. In a discussion on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor emphasised Saliba’s potential to reach world-class status, while suggesting that talents like Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard might not yet be on Real Madrid’s radar.

“I was having this debate with a taxi driver yesterday, Arsenal fan, he was saying ‘Which Arsenal player do you think is, or will become world class?’

“And the only one I could name was Saliba. I said Odegaard and Saka – very, very good players but I wouldn’t say they are two players who would be on Real Madrid’s radar, but Saliba I would.”

However, such claims may not resonate with all Arsenal fans, particularly concerning players like Saka and Rice, who possess immense talent and international recognition. While Odegaard’s return to Madrid might seem unlikely, both Saka and Rice are considered top talents worthy of attention from elite clubs worldwide.

Despite differing opinions, Arsenal’s focus remains on maximising the potential of their squad under Arteta’s guidance. As Danny Murphy points out, there’s confidence within the club that one player is poised to shine even brighter on the scoring front.
